Bursa lies on the
lower slopes of Uludag (Mt.Olympos of Mysia,2443 meters).Known as "Green Bursa",
the city is filled with gardens and parks and overlooks a verdant plain.It is at
the centre of an important fruit growing region. Bursa is famous for its silk
trade, towel manufacture and thermal springs.Candied chestnuts are regional
speciality. A tour of the city begins with Yesil Turbe (Green Mausoleum).Across
the street stands Yesil Mosque of 1424. Ulu Mosque was constructed in the Seljuk
style. A beautifully carved walnut mimber and impressive calligraphic panels
decorate the mosque. The ablutions fountain lies unusually within the mosque
itself under the ceiling of twenty domes. Uludag is the largest winter-sport
centre in Turkey and offers a variety of activities and entertainment.
